Things Not To Bring
I promised you lists so here's the first one; What Not To Bring (according to me that is)
Some of these things are really obvious and some aren't, so bear with me. Please make sure that you double check with your removals company who will give you a complete list of items that Australian Customs won't let you bring, some of which are on this list too but only because I can still remember them!
Paint including any kids paints
Wicker including chairs, baskets etc
Fridge and Fridge Freezer (they don't pack and travel well)
Washing Machine and Dryer (now some people would differ with me on this one but UK machines don't cope well with excess sand and everyone I've known who's brought one with them has ended up buying a new one within a matter of 3 months)
Video's - You can bring your Video player with you to play your UK videos but it won't record local programs so I'd advise against it and get one in Australia. PAL (or UK) Videos will work in Australian machines.
Wooden Garden Bench or similar (only because it's wood and been outside, you'd have to make sure it has no critters in it and is totally free of soil and other decaying matter so a steam power wash would be in order. To my mind it isn't worth it but you may think otherwise)
Lawn Mower (see Garden Bench above)
DAB Digital Radios (unless your Digital Radio has an AM/FM tuner) - there's no Digital Radion available as yet in Perth so it won't work. By all means bring it for the future if you like but I've no idea on time scales as yet.
Latex Mattress - Tends to crumble in hot storage so I wouldn't bother.
Wardrobes - Most houses have built in wardrobes so personally I'd save the space in your container.

Could anyone provide us with information on good schools in Perth and suburbs which are family friendly? Our daughter is 9 and we are moving from NZ at the end of January and don't know a thing about Perth but would appreciate any info or advice people have to offer.

Hello,
We're moving to Perth from the U.S. Do you have any recommendations for bringing kitchen appliances or not? (ie. mixer, food processor, toaster, espresso machine, etc.) Will they work effectively and for a long time or will we need to do too much to them to make it worth the while?
much appreciated,
joie

US uses 110v, Australia uses 220-240V, thus no electrical equipment from the US will work in Australia

You can always use your adapters to change ur power points from US to AU.

Depends what you want to work as, and how you want to live.
Living in Maylands is not bad. I used to live there in a unit (apartment building), and it is close to the train lines and the city.
If you want a house, move north of the river or south of the river.

I am moving back to the UK, not taking my white goods but my wooden & iron bed with mattress.& some furniture. Can you
advise me on what not to take or should take. Also are there storage places if I need them?
Thanks Dora.
