AQWA - Aquarium of Western Australia
This is such a good couple of hours out especially with a inquisitive person be they small or large.
It's really well laid out and, as usual, is excellent for buggy pushers and wheelchair users.
It's name is the "Aquarium of Western Australia" and it does exactly what it says on the tin. You see all the wonderful creatures that you would see if you were brave enough to don a wet suit and go diving off any part of the Western Australian coastline. They're all divided up into sections, so you'll get an idea of what's far up north, what's on the Perth coast, what's down south etc.
Coming from England and being used to seeing aquariums having to import most of the interesting fish (who wants to see loads of North Sea cod, herring, mackeral etc? Not that there's lots of them left), this is a really interesting take on the whole idea.
One of the best exhibits is Mettams Touch Pool where you can pick up or touch anything that is in there. Sea Stars, Sea Urchins and Sea Cucumbers are all available to touch and feel and the looks on peoples faces tell it all.
It is more expensive than the zoo or the wildlife parks and it doesn't take as long to get around it (a couple of hours is more than enough) but it's well worth a visit.
Where? Hillarys Boat Harbour
