Perth Schools - General Information
There is all sorts of information that you need when you've got school age kids; What is the curriculum, what age do they start, do I have to pay and how much etc etc.
The Department of Education has a good website which is full of information and can be found at http://www.eddept.wa.edu.au/
The school year starts end January/early February and ends in early to mid December.
The year consists of two semesters each with two terms so four terms in total. Each terms lasts approx 10 weeks with a two week break between terms and a long Summer break of 7-8 weeks.
All schools charge fees regardless of whether they are state or private status. Primary state schools charge an annual fee to cover costs (approx $30 in 2006) plus you have to provide your childs stationery equipment for the year (a list is provided by the school prior to the school year starting). You may also be asked to provide a voluntary annual contribution.
Senior schools have a different system and make a charge per subject. They have a flat fee for the core subjects of Maths, English & Science with a higher fee for all other subjects including IT, sports and arts. Fees are payable in advance of the school year starting and rise with the childs age.
Private schools are cheaper than their UK and European counterparts and are mainly faith based.
Every school has a uniform with some being more casual than others.

Hi
I notice you refer to Penrhos as the best school in Perth. We would disagree - and can back it up with substantial analysis of the quality of schools in Perth. We've got a web site: www.schoolgauge.com.au. Our members know who the best schools really are (you have to make a donation to become a member but its up to you how much you want to donate).
cheers
Greg
