Weekend Activities in Perth - Avon Valley National Park
The Avon Valley National Park is full of granite outcrops, forests and fauna. It's right at the northen end of the jarrah forests and the jarrah and marri mingle with wandoo woodland. This mix of trees provides diverse habitats for birds and animals.
As a result, it's great for bird watchers, as you can see rainbow bee-eaters, honeyeaters, kingfishers and rufous treecreepers.
Plenty of animals and reptiles live in the area too; honey possums and western pygmy possums hide in the dead leaves and skinks and geckos are everywhere. Western Grey Kangaroos come out at dusk to eat.
Canoeing is extremely popular in Winter and Spring on the Avon River that flows through the park and there are also White Water Rafting tours available to the public.
The Avon National Park is just 80km north east of Perth, about an hour away.
