Ashes Tickets Debate
With the latest lot of Ashes tickets snapped up in hours (see Ashes Tickets Sell Out Again) there has been much debating on whether the Barmy Army has actually managed to get their hands on tickets that Cricket Australia would rather go to Aussie Fans.
What Cricket Australia didn't realise, is that by all of a sudden creating this "Australian Cricket Family" to try to make sure that the Ashes tickets go to Australian fans, they just made the situation worse. All the Australian Cricket Family member had to do to register was to provide an Australian residential address and an Australian credit card number. Do they really think that everyone who can comply with this criteria will be an Aussie supporter?
Many people who have been here for years and are Australian citizens may still support their "mother country" when it comes down to sport, be it cricket or soccer. They may support Australia as their second team but if it comes to a crunch between Australia and "home" then sometimes there's just no contest.
Speaking as a Brit living in Australia I do find myself siding with England first and Australia second and I'm not that into sport. For the fanatics out there, there must be no contest as to who is their top team.
What this means of course for the Ashes, is that there will be a sea of white and red in an ocean of green and yellow. But is this a bad thing? I don't think so. What would the tests be without a chant or two, a few drums banging and good humoured mickey taking going on between the fans? It all adds up to a great atmosphere and surely that's what we should be aiming for, not a one sided show.
