Perth Zoo
Perth Zoo is a great day out for both adults and kids alike.
I've been to several zoos both large and small but I think Perth Zoo is one of the best. Not because I happen to be living here but it has everything that I personally look for in a great day out.
Perth Zoo is set out well, with the different sections (Reptile Encounter, Australian Bushwalk etc) well marked and easy to understand.
It has plenty of different species set in their own areas. For instance the Asian Rainforest Zone has orang utans, elephants, red pandas etc, very handy for explaining to kids where different animals are from in the world.
It is easy to get around in 6 hours or so. We've tended to arrive at 10am and left around 4pm and have managed to see everything without having to rush. We've also been able to have a decent amount of time for lunch and also stopped for an afternoon drink and rest.
There are a couple of cafes and also a large lawn in the centre for picnics and BBQ's. There's also a small children's playarea near the lawn so that the kids can go and have a bit of play whilst you unpack lunch.
Plenty of toilets and water fountains are dotted around the zoo too.
Also, if you go on a Wednesday out of school holidays, adults get in for kids prices. That's $8 for a full day out and I don't think you'll find better value than that anywhere in Perth.
