Top 10 Things To Do In South West Australia
Another one of my lists!
There are plenty of things to do in the South West of Australia and we try to include a new one whenever we visit, but we would probably try to do the items on this list every time we're there, hence it's our own top 10.
1. Bussleton Jetty and Underwater Observatory
We always walk the length of the jetty when on holiday in the South West. If the weather is good then we would also visit the observatory but we love taking a walk out to sea in the salty air before returning and having lunch at The Goose which is a great restaurant right on the water's edge and has lovely food and a relaxed atmosphere.
2. Visiting the Wineries
Need I say anything more? We have a few favourites that we always try to visit when we're in the area but we also try to include a couple that we haven't visited before. I'm sure that you will end up with your own list of favourites!
3. Whale Watching in Augusta
Obviously we can only do this at certain times of year but we loved it when we went whale watching in June 2005 here.
Pick a sunny day and there's nowhere I'd rather be.
5. The Beaches
Including, but not limited to; Bunker Bay, Eagle Bay and Meelup.
At any time of year you can enjoy the beaches; whether it's a morning or evening stroll, rock pooling when the tide's out, looking for shells or crabs, or simply lazing in the sun.
6. Scrambling Over Rocks
Particularly at Canal Rocks and Sugar Loaf Rock. They're great places to look for crabs, shells and generally messing about in the salty air.
7. Visiting the lighthouses
Both Capes, Naturaliste and Leeuwin, have lighthouses with guided tours that are interesting and fun to visit.
8. Enjoying the food and drink on offer!
Again, including but not limited to; Margaret River Chocolate Company, Tas Bakery in Dunsborough, The Goose in Bussleton, Margaret River Cheese Factory and Bootleg Brewery
9. Exploring one or more of the Caves
Ideal for a wet or dull afternoon.
10. Watching the sun set at Yallingup
Yallingup is surrounded by scenic coastline and is a surfing mecca but we like to visit in the late afternoon to see the sunset after having a wander along the beach and letting our son have a release of energy in the park!
